I've already begun reading it. The first half is really good!
By the way, my art history class was cancelled, but I started my children's book illustration class yesterday... kind of a long story about that, but I'll post on my blog. It was good, though, all things considered. I'm looking forward to the rest.
Um, I'm not really sure yet. We will be working with different mediums and learning about the best ways to set up a page. Our teacher will also be reporting on a different famous illustrator each day, which I'm looking forward to. Apparently, we'll be working on one illustration a week, as well. Its fun so far!
Hannah, I'm jealous... I LOVE Trina Schart Hyman and Steven Kellog too, Scyldmaiden. I also really like Richard Jesse Watson, esp. because he autographed a book for me. He's really good though.
I was going to say I haven't heard of Richard Jesse Watson, but I looked him up and could have sworn I have seen his work before. Sure enough, I found his cover art for "The Fox Busters". Watson has a nice sense of color and line quality in his work. I like it.
Yah, he's got a really cool way of doing snowflakes too... Just in case you were wondering. :) Anyway, I like him a lot. Oh, and I just remembered that I really REALLY like Tommie DePaola. SO CUTE!
The name scyldmaiden came from when I was reading "Beowulf" in school. The word "scyld" means and is pronounced "shield".
Aspiring artist/author if I ever get anything finished.
Like to think I can sing, but only with a choir.
Gets lost in books far too easily.
Takes a very large Black Lab to work. (He only barks at creepy truck drivers.)
Can sort of act; likes Shakespear best.
Loves being outside.(Except in extreme cold or heat.)
Tries to grow in the Catholic faith.

The encyclical is very good. I have to read it in small bits to absorb it.
What is your book illustration class covering?

Some of my favorite artists are illustrators. I like Alan Lee, John Howe, Mary Grand Pre, Steven Kelloge, and Trina Schart Hyman.

Oh yeah! I love DePaola's work too. His books are always fun to read.
Yah, no kidding. He was my all-time favorite as a kid. My fave books of his are probably 26 Fairmount Avenue and the spaghetti one.
