Well, it is about time I added another post. I am not sure about what.......Oh yes, thanks for the birthday wishes! I had a quiet but enjoyable birthday.
This morning mom asked me what I thought about a dress pattern for my sister's Christmas dress. It has a high mandarin collar with an komodo like cut. Not the type of dress found in stores. I like it. I might try to take up sewing again......*wanders off muttering*

That sounds like a very beautiful dress design. What type of material is she planning on using? Taking up sewing, eh? Well I would definitely want to see some pictures of your finished product then.
I don't think I've ever seen a dress like that... Komodo? Is that something like a kimono?
I hope you enjoy sewing again :) I tried sewing once, but didn't get very far. Bummer.
*laughs* It is probably the same thing Hannah. I just can't spell and I couldn't find the word in spell check.
I think Kathleen is using a velvet-like material, Kodi. Very Chirstmasy.
Whenever I first read that, she was the one I pictured out of the two. What color of material is she going to use?
Sewing (Or Home Ec, rather) is the first class in my life I ever failed. We were supposed to make these pillows, which were shaped and colored like various things. On at least three occasions, I spent the period sewing, and then discovered that as well as sewing the pillow together, I was simultaneously sewing the whole thing onto my pants, which are usually worn baggy and too large. The whole things was a disaster, to say the least.
Although since then I've successfully sewn some Rock for Life patches onto my sweatshirt. Whee.
Cowie, that's hysterical! I made a pillow 5ish years ago with an embroidered butterfly on the front. It isn't very useful, as it is pretty small, but I was just glad to actually have a finished product!
I like your blog, Scyldmaiden. By the way, I am Hannah's younger sister. :)
I love your sewing escapades, Cow. I've sewn small pillows for all of my family members... they were Christmas presents one year. I did a bean-bag cat, of sorts; he was hand stitched together. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough fabric, so didn't really get sewn together in parts and started coming apart. And, finally, I also did "fake sewing" once - I wanted to make a stuffed cat and didn't have the patience to sew it together by hand or to deal with my wimpy sewing machine, which breaks every ten minutes or so, so I put fabric paint between the two sides I had cut out and ironed it dry! Needless to say, there was fabric paint everywhere, squishing out all over the the ironing board and iron, but I still have the stuffed cat... it didn't come apart. The kind of sad thing about it is that I gave it to my brother for a birthday present and he wasn't all that thrilled... "What's this?" Yeah... I've had many "brilliant" ideas like that in my day. :)
Sorry this turned into a post :) Maybe I should start posting my childhood escapades on my website... they can be pretty funny sometimes.
That is very funny Cow! I don't have that kind of trouble with sewing. My trouble is more like Hannah's; the stupid machine refuses to obey, breaks the thread, carries the seams out of line and sews the wrong side of the outfit together. In general, it's a bad boy.
I have never tried fabic paint. I seriously doubt mom would let anyone mess with her pride and joy: her industrial strength iron. My mom is a sewing maniac to say the least. She and Kathleen (my 13 year-old sister) are using a pattern from the late 70s and a checkered brown fabric from heaven knows when for Kathleen's Christmas dress. Mom doesn't believe in throwing sewing stuff away. I know she made a Christmas dress for me out of the same material when I was five. Call it vintage and you can get away with the most outrageous outfits.
Ah, so that is who you are Madeline. I am slowly figuring out who belongs with who. Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed my blog.
